The Alarm Verifier

The Alarm Verifier

The first role is that of the alarm verifier. It is carried out by maintenance staff, the security team, or the security officer. This role checks the state of the situation before an evacuation is even triggered. Indeed, it justifies the launch of an emergency evacuation. Its role is to determine whether an event is under control or not. This way, the crisis unit can decide whether or not an evacuation is necessary.

The Evacuation Officer: Floor Warden / Sweep Warden

The second essential role is that of the evacuation officers. The Floor Warden is responsible for directing people out of the site. To do this, they need to know the premises and the various exits perfectly. It is important that they show complete self-control in order to adapt to any situation. Then, once at the assembly point, they must make sure that everyone from their zone is present by taking a roll call. The Sweep Warden, meanwhile, is responsible for checking that no one remains in a given zone. Their role is somewhat like a "sweeper vehicle." However, if they encounter a difficulty, they must contact the crisis unit, which will then take charge of the situation.

The Occupational First-Aid Responder - SST

Any company with at least 20 employees is required to have one SST per group of 20 people (Article R 4224-15 of the French Labor Code).

The First or Second Response Team Member - EPI/ESI

First and second response team members are agents specialized in emergency situations related to a fire outbreak within a company. Indeed, this person will raise the alarm to bring staff to safety, notify the fire department, and bring the fire under control using the equipment made available to them. Faced with a fire outbreak, after taking protective measures, they use the available first-response resources, carrying out the various maneuvers required. Their training covers a more comprehensive, coordinated approach to fire intervention and firefighting. They may coordinate with other team members and are likely to guide external emergency services and report on the situation.

The Crisis Unit - Coordinating the Actors of Emergency Evacuation

Finally, the strategic role in an evacuation falls to the crisis unit. It is generally made up of directors (site, security, industrial, etc.) who bear significant responsibility. The crisis unit makes all the major decisions regarding the crisis situation, from launching the evacuation to managing communication about the event in the press. It is therefore important that it has real-time visibility in order to make the right decisions.
